MARNIE CRAWFORD SAMUELSON & BOSTON PICTURE GROUP

I photograph people and the fabric of their lives for magazines, healthcare and educational organizations, design groups, and advertising agencies. I also pursue independent projects, including books and exhibits.

I work in a fluid reportage style, as well as in higher production portrait situations, both on location and in the studio. I photograph in medium and 35 mm formats, with digital and film cameras.

Boston Picture Group, the umbrella for all of my photographic endeavors, suggests a collaborative style of working with art directors, photo editors and production crews. These partnerships have allowed me to handle complex projects, while staying lean and flexible.

The studio, located in Jamaica Plain, MA, a Boston neighborhood, offers a mix of daylight and artificial light sources, a cyc wall, fine black & white printing, digital production from scanning to fine art printing, and a wide assortment of lighting and location gear.

I graduated from Stanford University (b.a.) and The Sloan School, M.I.T. (m.s. business). I have worked at Tea Lautrec Litho (journeyman printer), for Polaroid Corporation (marketing manager), and for Cape Cod Times (reporter and business editor). My stories and photographs have appeared in a wide variety of magazines and publications including The New Yorker, People Magazine, and U.S. News & World Report.
